LogicBoxes: Nameservers – Upgrade Notification – URGENT

LogicBoxes have been busy upgrading/improving the DNS infrastructure, this blog contains important information about changes you and your resellers must make for your branded nameservers (if using the FreeDNS service); please read through it in detail.

The importance of a stable and robust DNS service for any domain name or website can not be underestimated. In light of recent events that affected the DNS service, LB have been working towards enhancing our DNS infrastructure. The changes LB are about to implement will considerably improve DNS capability, which will ensure better reliability for all dependent services.

Salient features

  • The DNS servers will be hosted at three geographically distributed locations across east, west and central USA
  • They will now be able to process well over 10 Gbps of data, to facilitate faster DNS resolution
  • There will be 4 IP addresses assigned for each of the nameservers, instead of the current set of 3

The infrastructure setup for these servers is complete; your branded nameservers must now be updated to bring the changes into effect.

For partially branded nameservers

If you’re using only the partially branded nameservers, such as <some_prefix>.mercury.orderbox-dns.com, you do not have to do anything – LB shall make all the necessary changes.

For fully branded nameservers

If you’re using fully branded nameservers of the type ns1.domain.com, the IP addresses for these must be updated for the changes to take effect. Please do the following

    1. Update all the child nameserver entries, so that each nameserver uses the corresponding new IP addresses listed in the table below
    2. Using the DNS management services for the parent domain of your child nameservers, update the A records for each child nameserver to use the new IP addresses

(Note: The old IP addresses marked in red will no longer be used)

How soon must you do this?

The new IP addresses are already functional, so you can make the changes immediately. The old IP addresses will be decommissioned after 07/11/2011 (7th November, 2011), so the changes must be completed before this date. This is extremely important, because after 07/11/2011, requests to the old IP addresses may not be answered, which would adversely impact domain names using your branded nameservers.

Please forward the information in this email to your resellers, so they may make the necessary changes to their branded nameservers as well.

LogicBoxes: Modification to the Free Email Feature

Effective August 17th 2011, LogicBoxes will be modifying the Free Email feature that is available with Domain Names. As per this new implementation, all new Domain Registrations will be offered up to 2 Free Email Accounts with a maximum mail space of 100MB per account.

LogicBoxes believe this change will allow Customers to try the email services offered and encourage them to upgrade to a paid Email Hosting package. The Free Email feature is optional and you can learn more about it : http://manage.netearthone.com/kb/servlet/KBServlet/cat118.html.

Impact on Existing Free Packages

Issue with .GB.COM domains

Hi there,

Those that may have registered a gb.com domain through NetEarth One with the registry CentralNIC have probably seen a connection issue to your domain today, a statement from CentralNIC follows and we will keep you updated :

Unfortunately, the service CentralNic has been providing for domains ending .gb.com has been interrupted. We are currently taking legal advice about this and are taking urgent steps to restore the service.

This interruption relates to a longstanding legal dispute regarding the domain name gb.com, dating back to when the current shareholders acquired the business in 2004. We  can confirm, with absolute certainty, that no other CentralNic domain extensions are subject to any such disputes.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact our team at info@centralnic.com.

LogicBoxes Emergency downtime notice 28th July 2011

Emergency downtime scheduled by DC on the July 28th 2011

Based on an emergency maintenance required by our Datacenter, a brief downtime may be experienced on the 28th of July 2011.  Please find the details of the same below:

Reason:

The Network Engineers at our DC have identified a faulty supervisor module in the router. After consulting with the vendor, they have determined that the standby supervisor needs to be replaced in order to prevent any unexpected service disruptions.

Maintenance Notice

Maintenance has thus been scheduled for some of our servers as these hardware upgrades need to be made.

Maintenance Window:
Date: Thursday July 28, 2011
Duration: 4 hours
Start Time: 05:00:00 GMT

Affected Services:

  • Mail      architecture
  • Old      Windows hosting
  • Old      Linux hosting
  • OrderBox
  • Live      Chat
  • Support      Helpdesk
  • DNS      Service

While these are hot pluggable modules, a reload of the active supervisor  maybe required for it to properly recognize the new standby module. If at all the reboot is required, a service disruption of no more than 20  minutes can be expected.

While the engineers at our Datacenter will work to minimize the impact, customers may experience downtime on the above mentioned services.

Saturday Support hours change

We have been monitoring the weekend live chat and support queues for the last 6 weeks, the decision has been taken to change the Saturday support hours slightly.

This has come about because we are seeing a significant decrease in support requests and and live chat requests on Saturday morning and evening, so starting today Saturday, 23rd July 2011, the hours are changing to the following :

Live chat Start : 09:00

Live chat End : 22:00

Tickets will still be monitored so any significant surge due to an unforseen service failure will still be given utmost priority, fear not, your overall NEO experience of great service will not change.
