Privacy Protection becoming chargeable

As previously discussed we will start charging for the privacy protection service, the date for this has been set for Monday 6th October 2014 at 1200 hours (midday BST / 1100 UTC).

We had initially advised that the cost should be around $1.50 per year, this was amended in ticket responses for further information to between $1.50 and $2.00. After careful deliberation from continued involvement in the ICANN working group surrounding PP service providers, the service we offer and the future work that will be involved and standards being created the cost will be $1.75 per year for gTLDs that can have the service enabled.

The following information determines when the charge will apply :

Domain has already enabled PP service protection BEFORE 1200BST on Monday 6th October 2014.

This will remain free until either:
A) Service is disabled, on being re-enabled a charge will occur
B) Domain renewal with the PP service still enabled, charge will occur

Domain has PP service protection disabled after 1200 BST on Monday 6th October 2014:
A) Enabling the service will result in a charge.

Once the PP service has been charged, turning on or off the service throughout the term of the PP service period (part year (if enabled in middle of domain year), year or how many years that have been requested – UNTIL renewal of domain) can be completed at no charge.

Lastly, where the PP service has been requested, any new Registration / Transfer in or Renewal from 1200 BST, Monday 6th October 2014 will result in a charge.

LogicBoxes : The Express Cart

We have received a new feature – bear in mind the feature was enabled before we were told about it.  But LB’s PR hype :

Designed especially for you, this new power tool is for power users who place orders for their customers frequently. If you frequently place orders on behalf of your customers, you don’t need to navigate through multiple pages and dismiss upsells on the SuperSite while placing orders anymore. The SuperSite Express encapsulates the purchase process on a single page in 3 simple steps:

  1. Choose a product and plan
  2. Enter your Customer’s email address (or Create a new Customer Account)
  3. Choose an Invoice option for your Customers

Once placed, every order will be activated automatically.

This feature was launched today23rd September 2014 and there are no changes on your existing SuperSite or API. This tool is specially designed for you and your Sub-Resellers only. Your Customers will continue to be directed to your SuperSite or custom storefront, as per your specifications.

For now, the SuperSite Express supports all Products except IDNs, Nexus TLDs, Premium Names, Bulk actions, Dedicated and Managed Servers and SiteLock. But we’ll keep building on this tool to introduce faster flows for your most common tasks and actions.

We’re excited to be releasing this new tool and hope it makes your work easier and faster.

New gTLD’s going live this week

This coming week we will be adding over 20 of the new gTLD’s, the list is below.

Because of an issue with the OrderBox, you will receive a series (probably 3) of emails coming signup, de-activation and then a new signup mail – this is a bug within the OrderBox as LogicBoxes cannot set our pricing without the items being active, and because of the automatic % increase feature, this does some weird and wonderful things wherein the sale price set could be wrong.

So to fix this, LB will active the products, then make the changes, then de-activate, so that when we activate them next time round, the % pricing “should” work properly.

The list of gTLDs going live this week will be :

.LONDON Domain Names
.LA Domain Names
.CO.COM Domain Names
.HAUS Domain Names
.GLOBAL Domain Names
.ACCOUNTANTS Domain Names
.CREDITCARD Domain Names
.CREDIT Domain Names
.INVESTMENTS Domain Names
.LUXURY Domain Names
.ACTOR Domain Names
.ROCKS Domain Names
.CONSULTING Domain Names
.KAUFEN Domain Names
.MODA Domain Names
.JOBS Domain Names
.CO.COM Domain Names
.BERLIN Domain Names
.BAR Domain Names
.REST Domain Names
.PUB Domain Names

Pricing will be released on the platform.

LogicBoxes mail storage issue on Austin Mail servers

You or your customer may have noticed missing email and lack of IMAP services the past 4 days because of a storage related issue with LogicBoxes Austin mail servers (covering both paid / free and enterprise mail services).

This issue unravelled on Thursday morning, and since then LogicBoxes along with the storage manufacturer/disaster recovery company have been working towards bringing historic email back online (to include current email upto and including Thursday 24th April).

A full rundown can be read here : http://forums.myorderbox.com/index.php?/topic/4966-mail-issue-on-austin-servers/ and you can use your NEO user / pass to login to read that forum post.

The last post mentioned that the recovery could take weeks to complete and moreover may or may not be successful in restoring mail.

The latest update is below from the above forum :

How did this happen?
We were bringing a new storage cluster online, and during this process data was inadvertently removed from an existing storage cluster.

What are you doing to get my mail back?
The removal of this data has made it very challenging to restore your messages.  As we’ve mentioned, we are working with our storage industry experts to reconstruct the data, work continues around the clock towards this end, but this is a very time consuming process, and it may take a few weeks to complete the entire process.

Are my messages gone forever?
It is possible that some messages of your messages may be unrecoverable, however at this time we have not completed our work on the restoration.  We will continue working on our recovery efforts, with an eye towards restoring as many messages for as many customers as quickly as possible.

Should I be worried that this is going to happen again?
The error that occurred was highly unusual.  We are carefully analyzing what happened and are implementing additional safeguards to prevent this particular event from reoccurring.

From the above, LB are looking to bring back online IMAP, and, subsequently need you and your customers to backup their IMAP folders if they have them offline, BEFORE connecting to the mail service.  If they used POP3 this does not need carrying out, however, if IMAP was used, THIS CERTAINLY DOES need carrying out.  Some instructions for popular mail applications are listed below.

From LB:

We wish to turn on the IMAP service within the next 48hours. Hence, we would like that all our clients have a local copy of their emails, such that it can be re-synced with the server.

Following are some DIY steps on how we store/backup emails on your local machines.

Instructions for Outlook:
The process to setup the same has been specified in two of our KB articles:
1> https://support.logicboxes.com/helpdesk/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/5/49/how-do-i-move-my-emails-from-one-address-to-another
2> https://support.logicboxes.com/helpdesk/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/59/49/how-do-i-take-a-local-backup-of-my-email-in-outlook-2010

In Outlook 2010:
Follow these steps to export a specific folder:

    Click the File tab.
In the Outlook Options window, click Advanced.
    Click Export.
In the Import and Export Wizard, click Export to a file, and then click Next.
Click Outlook Data File (.pst), and then click Next.
Select the folder to export, and then click Next.
Click Browse, and then select the location where you want the new .pst file to be saved.
In the File Name box, type the name that you want to use for the new .pst file, and then click OK.
    Click Finish.

In an earlier version of Outlook:

    Open Outlook.
On the File menu, click Import And Export. If the menu item is not available, move your pointer over the chevrons at the bottom of the menu, and then click Import and Export.
Click Export To File, and then click Next.
Click Personal Folder File (.pst), and then click Next.
Click the folder to which you want to export the .pst file, and then click Next.
Click Browse, and then select the location where you want the new .pst file to be saved.
In the File Name box, type the name that you want to use for the new .pst file, and then click OK.
    Click Finish.
