LogicBoxes platform scheduled downtime | November 24th, 2012

This post contains important information about a system-wide downtime that is scheduled for the 24th of November, 2012 at 04:30 UTC.

OrderBox, the system that automates your billing, provisioning and reporting modules will be shifted to TexasOne DataCenter in Austin,TX on the 24th of November, 2012. This is the same DataCenter that powers all LB’s hosting products and packages.

Scheduled Downtime

Date November 24th, 2012
Start Time 04:30 UTC
Maintenance Window 4 Hours
Reason Knowledgebase, Old SuperSite, SuperSite2, Control Panel, API(Soap & HTTP), Whois, DNS Management
All Domains and Hosting packages will continue to resolve. However, you will not be able to manage them through the Control Panel.

Important Modifications

Once the migration has been completed, the IP addresses associated with the SuperSite and some of LB’s products and services will change.

LB will automatically make these changes for Domains that are managed through the Control Panel (FreeDNS). However, if your Domains’ DNS are managed on another platform, you will need to manually update its Nameservers and DNS once the migration has been completed. You will have time till the 4th of December, 2012 to make these changes.

You will find the new IP Addresses in the  Knowledgebase once the migration has been completed.

Archiving Unused Domain Contacts

Once the migration has been completed, LB will be starting a new process for managing Unused Domain Contacts in the system. Contacts that have not been used for more than six months will be archived.

If you need to search for these contacts, you will need to view them in your ‘Archived Contacts’. Your Domains’ ‘Default Contact’ will not be affected and will not be archived.

We recommend that you share this information with your Customers and Sub-Resellers so that they are made aware of these changes we are making.

NetEarth One Registry Price Increase

NetEarth – ORG Price increase

As you may be aware, a few months ago PIR (the registry that handles .ORG) increased its pricing to the registrars as allowed by its contract with ICANN.

We did not increase our pricing straight away as we wanted to see if we could fully absorb the increase, now a couple of months have passed and weighing up the figures we will need to increase the pricing by 15 cents ($0.15) for a renewal, transfer or registration. This increase is still less that the registry increase to us of 40+cents so we are absorbing some of the increase ourselves.

As we have previously stated to our reseller base over the years, we will not inflate our pricing without good reason (greediness for instance or to simply increase profits) or registry increases, we stand by this statement.

This increase will take effect on Saturday 1st September 2012 at 00:01 BST (UTC/GMT +1).

ES and EU registrations using Billing applications

If you are using a billing application that does not use the API’s “check availability call” for gathering availability of .ES, .EU and .WS then please drop in a ticket to support to get a configuration change.

Do I need it:

If you are using whmcs or awbs or a billing application that has a whoislookup file AND If you sell . EU / .ES then yes you do.

How do I fix it:

Drop an email into support [at] netearthone.com, subject of : “WHOIS EU and ES” with your Reseller ID (Number), 2 numbers from your PIN, your servers IP address and the request for access to our lookup script and we will enable you to do it and reply with the modifications needed.

Why should I:

It would appear that some billing applications like whmcs, do not use a proper method for lookup of .ES domain names as the ES registry does not offer an end user port 43 service, and thus it allows for registration of prohibited domains, these are then registered with the LB platform and you are charged.  The Spanish registry then deletes these prohibited registrations without any refund.  We have also seen a reseller using .EU have their whmcs checking ability abused and EURID have blocked their IP address for 90 days.

Ultimately it is up to you if you do this or not 🙂
